Perth is the capital city of Western Australia and Australia’s western gateway.

Consistently rated as one of the most liveable cities in the world, Perth’s spectacular natural surroundings are rivalled only by its vibrant city life. It is also the only capital city with a wine region, pristine conservation areas and 19 beautiful beaches all close enough to be enjoyed in a day.

What to do

In Perth city’s main streets and laneways you’ll discover vibrant arts, a lively café and small bar scene, plus more than 900 specialty shops, from fashion houses to fine jewellers.

Connecting the Swan River and the city – the vibrant waterfront precinct of Elizabeth Quay is a focal point for visitors and locals. Two new public precincts, Kings Square and Yagan Square connect the city to Northbridge and are popular places for locals to meet, eat, drink and shop.

Perth’s brand new state of the art Optus Stadium opened in January 2018 and has hosted sell-out sporting and music events.

Within an hour of Perth’s CBD there is much to explore; swimming with wild dolphins at Rockingham or cruising the coastal city of Mandurah’s scenic canals.

Weather

Perth is Australia’s sunniest capital city with an average of nine hours of sunshine a day. The month of May is in autumn where the days are often clear and sunny with cooler mornings and evenings.

The Noongar people celebrate a six season calendar with each season representing the flowering of different plants, the hibernation of certain animals and more. This season is known as Djeran when the cool nights bring a dewy presence to the mornings and an end to the really hot summer. This is also the time of red flowers, especially from the Red Flowering Gum and Summer Flame bush in Autumn.
